Cocktail of the Week: Pink Panther

The alcoholic components of this drink are gin, dry vermouth and creme de cassis. Dry vermouth is a fortified wine (wine to which a distilled beverage, usually brandy, has been added) flavored with various herbs. Creme de cassis is a sweet black currant flavored liqueur. A splash of orange juice gives the drink a little sweetness and the egg white, if you choose to add it, will give the drink a little body and a nice foam on top. I made this at a dinner party this weekend and even the non-cocktail drinkers liked it. Despite what its name might suggest, the Pink Panther is not overly sweet or cloying. It’s a nice balance of sweet and bitter and I’ll certainly make it again.

Ingredients:

3/4 oz. gin

3/4 oz. dry vermouth

1/5 oz. creme de cassis

1/2 oz. orange juice

1 egg white (optional)

Directions:

1) Fill mixing glass with ice

2) Add gin, dry vermouth, creme de cassis, orange juice and egg white

3) Shake

4. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass
