Cocktail of the Week: Americano

10 Feb

This cocktail is made with Campari, “an alcoholic spirit obtained from the infusion of bitter herbs, aromatic plants and fruit; predominantly pomegranate, in alcohol and water.” Personally, I’ve always thought Campari tastes like smoky grapefruit, but that’s just me. Also making an appearance is sweet vermouth,a fortified wine that is, unsurprisingly, sweeter than its cousin dry vermouth. I liked this cocktail. It wasn’t sweet but wasn’t overpoweringly alcoholy either. Smoky and rich, but refreshing, too. In the words of Steph, my guest cocktail taster, “It tastes like autumn.”

Ingredients:

1 oz Campari

1 oz. sweet vermouth

3 oz. club soda

Directions:

1. Fill a highball glass with ice

2. Add Campari, sweet vermouth and club soda

3. stir
