Some of you may notice that sometimes my blog features sharp, beautiful photos and sometimes the photos look like a slightly impaired monkey took them. I’m going to let you in on a little secret: the impaired monkey is me, and the beautiful pictures are taken by my sweetheart Shawn Poynter.
Not to brag (ok, totally to brag), but his photos have been featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, MSNBC and various other media outlets. Tonight, he will grace Community Television of Knoxville with his illustrious presence to present his in-process project, Central Street for our March First Friday. Says Shawn:
Knoxville’s Central Street runs from the new lofts and hip bars of its south end to the used tire stores and empty buildings of its north.
The street is home to neighborhoods that hopefuls call ‘up-and-coming.’ New stuff is creeping up on the old. Existing structures are being retooled to accommodate new businesses and living spaces. As someone who lives a block away from Central on the industrial end, I welcome these changes though I realize that much of Central’s character, specifically the buildings and signs, will eventually disappear.
This project, which is in-process, will create a snapshot of Central Street as it is today.
Come on by and check out Shawn’s work at the Community Television studios at 808 State Street tonight from 5-7 p.m.
